Coming into the decade, they have a killer pitching staff including four 1983 - Righthander Mike Boddicker has his first big season as a
ace starters in MacGregor, Flanagan, Stone and Palmer and a dynamite twenty five year old. He would have made an impact much sooner
bullpen led by Tim Stoddard, Sammy Stewart, and Dennis and but there were too many ace veteran pitchers blocking his way.
Tippy Martinez. The starting lineup included two stars, Murray and Mike had been selected in the 6th round of the 1978 draft

players that wizard manager Earl Weaver never failed to get the most 1983 - Baltimore wins the World Series (their last one to date)
out of. Guys like Bumbry, Roenicke, Lowenstein, Sheets, Orsulak,  beating the Phillies. Murray and Ripken lead the way offensively,

1981 - The Orioles don't win either half's title in strike shortened season 1985 - The O's bring back Earl Weaver, but a magician can't work
his magic when there's nothing to work with.

Hoffberger's leadership is starting to be felt as the dynasty winds down. in the run.
General Manager Hank Peters stayed on after Hoffberger left, but he
couldn't keep the ball rolling and was replaced after the 1987 season. 1986 - It's over. The Orioles are a bad club and finish 73-89.
Edward Bennett Williams may have been a good lawyer, but he
1983 - The Orioles complete a twenty year stretch in which they won couldn't approach Hoffberger's expertise in assembling a winning
ninety or more games sixteen times. That was a dynasty folks. The management team.
four years they missed included one strike shortened season and
one eighty eight win year. 1989 - Baltimore makes a run for the title, losing two one run
games at the end to Division Champion Toronto. Greg Ballard has

only above .500 season in a six year stretch and they contended
despite only winning eighty seven games
