  1990 - A rollercoaster decade for the Sox. They win the Division twice, Darren Lewis (3.76) -    15  
  but aren't competitive in either post season. Boston also sprinkles in Darren Bragg (6.2) -   13  
  four sub .500 seasons into the mix. By the end of the decade, Jose Canseco (5.5) -   13  
   however, Boston is on the upswing finishing second twice and     
  winning over 90 games in both '98 and '99. The Sox make it as a Notable Events:  
  Wild Card in both '98 and '99.  
    1996- Roger Clemens strikes out twenty Tigers in a game  
  1990 - History repeats itself as the Red Sox win the weak AL matching his twenty strikeout effort ten years earlier. Amazing.  
  East Division title and then get swept in the ALCS - same as '88 Clemens leaves the Red Sox for the Blue Jays via Free Agency  
    after the season. After going 40-39 over the past four seasons,  
  1991 - Roger Clemens wins the Cy Young. Its his third. the Sox figured Clemens was washed up. They were wrong.  
    Unclear when Roger started taking the 'roids, but his performance  
  1991 - 1B Mo Vaughn comes up as a twenty three year old rookie after leaving the Sox was other worldly with Toronto.   
  Mo was a first round pick in the '89 draft.  
    1997 - Nomar bursts onto the scene and wins Rookie of the Year.  
  1992 - Wade Boggs bolts for the Yankees as a free agent He has all the earmarks of the next great Red Sox hitter.  
    Garciaparra, 23, had been selected in the first round of the '94 draft.  
  1992 - Twenty five year old rookie 3B John Valentin joins the club.    
  He will remain with the club for the next ten years, most of them  1998 - Pedro Martinez, 26, is signed as a free agent from the Expos.

  Red Sox become Division champs.  the 1993 draft.   
       
  1995 - Boston wins the Division, but gets swept by  1999- Sox lose Mo Vaughn to the Angels in Free Agency.   
  Cleveland in the ALDS. This moved their streak to thirteen Even tho' he had hit 40 homers, the Sox still have plenty of hitting.

  in the 1986 World Series. Followed by two four game sweeps 1999 - Pedro wins the Cy Young leading Boston to the wild card.

  the Indians. It seemed that even when the Red Sox succeeded, nineteen, before winning the last three. Boston then gets beat by the  
  it was meant to set up their fans for an even bigger letdown later on. Yanks in the ALCS. Boston's upsurge in '98 and '99 was mainly on the  
    back of Pedro's dominant pitching.
