2010 - After having made the post season fifteen years in a row (one year  Ender Inciarte (10.82) -   31
ended in a strike, only one world series win in the 15 year span), the  Justin Upton (5.71) -   18
Braves come into the 2010 decade not having made the playoffs four Michael Bourn (6.48) -   14
years running. They weren't terrible in 2009,  going 86-76, so there was BJ Upton (2.06) -   10
some reason for optimism. The Atlanta roster had a fair number of keepers  Matt Kemp (1.28) -   7
coming into the decade (all signed by John Schuerholz):
  □ C - Brian McCann, 26, 21-77-.269, 2nd round pick 2002 Notable Events:
  □ 2B - Martin Prado, 26, 15-66-.307, IFA 2001
  □ RF - Jason Heyward, 20, 18-72-.277, 2007 - 14th overall pick 2007 draft  2014 - The Braves unexpectedly decline. With basically the same team,
   □ 1B - Freddie Freeman, 20, 2nd round pick 2007  plus Santana, they lose 17 games in the standings. The lineup that was
  □ RHP - Tommy Hanson, 23, 10-11 3.33. 22nd round pick in 2005  power laden and circular in 2013 saw everybody decline significantly.
  □ RHP - Kris Medlen, 24, 6-2 3.68, 10th round pick in 2006  And these guys were all young or in their prime. Similarly with the pitching.
  □ Reliever - Craig Kimbrel, 22, 4-0 0.44, 33rd round pick in 2007  Most of the staff were young and upcoming in 2013, only to crash and burn
  □ RHP - Jair Jurrjens, 24, 7-6 4.64, obtained from Detroit for    in 2014.
  Edgar Renteria in '07

seasons while getting 89 wins the fourth. They do it mainly on their
pitching as Tim Hudson, 34, goes 17-9, Derek Lowe, 37, goes 16-12 2015 - Righthander Mike Foltynewicz, 23, is obtained from the Astros
and Billy Wagner, 38, goes 7-2 1.43 with 37 saves out of the pen. A red   for Evan Gattis in a five player deal
flag moving forward, obviously, is when your big three averages thirty six
years of age. Lowe loses his effectiveness in 2011, Wagner retires after 2015 - Lefty Mike Fried, 21 and OF Mailex Smith, 22, are obtained from
the season and only Hudson carries on pitching effectively for Atlanta San Diego for Justin Upton. Fried will come in '19 and be an instant ace.
    for two more seasons

2010 - SS Andrelton Simmons, 20, is selected in the second round 2016 - Atlanta picks up SS Dansby Swanson, 22, a first round pick
of the draft. He is inexplicably traded to Anaheim for Erick Aybar in 2015 and twenty five old OF Ender Inciarte from Arizona for
and two prospects in 2016 washed-up righthander Shelby Miller in an absolute steal of a deal.

2011 - 2B Dan Uggla, 31, is acquired from Florida to fortify the lineup.  2017 - 2B Ozzie Albies, 20, is a rookie. He was an IFA in 2013

2013 - OF BJ Upton, 28, is signed as a free agent from Tampa. 2018 - Alex Anthopolous is signed on as GM
While his younger brother becomes a vital cog in the lineup,
BJ lays an egg in Atlanta 2018 - OF Ronald Acuna comes up and wins Rookie of the Year at
the young age of twenty. He's a can't miss prospect. Ronald was signed
2013 - Utilityman / catcher Evan Gattis, 26, is a rookie. He was taken as an IFA in 2014 at the age of sixteen.
in the 23rd round of the 2010 draft and can flat out hit.
He is dealt away to Houston in 2015 2018 - After four sub .500 seasons, the Braves gain 18 games in the
standings to win the Division. They lose in the first round of the playoffs
2013 - Forty year old third baseman Chipper Jones retires.   to the Dodgers. The main reason for the improvement was that Atlanta
He was still productive going 14-62-.287. Chipper is replaced by gave up 164 runs less than in 2017. It wasn't any one pitcher, all of them
Chris Johnson, 28, who was picked up from Arizona as part of the  picked up their games a bit from the previous season.
Justin Upton deal. Chris puts up similar numbers to Jones. Chipper  On offense, second baseman Ozzie Albies and third baseman Johann
may have held off retiring for a year if he knew how good Atlanta would  Camargo both blossom in their second seasons in the big leagues
be in 2013. and rookie Ronald Acuna bolsters the offense, as well.

2013 - Righty Julio Teheran, 23, is a rookie. He was an IFA in 2007 2019 - RHP Mike Soroka, 21, Is a rookie. He was a 1st round pick in 2015

2013 - Atlanta wins the Division with 96 victories. The everyday lineup 2019 - A roller coaster decade for the Braves ends on a high note as Atlanta
is solid but not spectacular, but it is somewhat circular. They've got wins 97 games and the Division. For the second year in a row, the Braves
five players topping twenty homers and the other four regulars topping  lose the NLDS after winning the Division. This all follows four years of sub .500
nine. 1B Freddy Freeman, C Brian McCann, 2B Dan Uggla, OF Justin  (2014-2017), which followd four good years of 93 wins average (2010-2013),
Upton and UT Evan Gattis are the power guys. which followed four non contending years (2006-2009).
There's some nice youth on the club as Freeman, Andrelton Simmons Classic Roller Coaster
and Jason Heyward are only twenty three, Gattis is twenty six and The Braves have nice looking young club moving forward.
Justin Upton is twenty five. The offense is led by youngsters OF Acuna, 21, SS Swanson, 25, 2B Albies, 22,
Only Uggla is over thirty. All that being said, it's the pitching that delivers the and veterans 1B Freeman, C McCann, 35, C Flowers, 33, OF Markakis, 35
title for Atlanta. There are four starters with double figures wins, but it's and 3B Josh Donaldson, 33. Donaldson was signed in '19 as a Free Agent.
the bullpen led by Craig Kimbrel, 4-3 1.21 with 50 saves that makes On the mound, the staff is deep, led by rookie RHP Soroka, 21 and LHP
the big difference. There are several other guys with ERA's under two: Mike Fried, 25, in his first full season. Solid veterans RHP Julio Teheran, 28,
David Carpenter, Luis Avilan and Freddy Garcia.  and RHP Mike Foltynewicz, 27, are still around to anchor the rotation.

2014 - Righty Ervin Santana, 31, is signed as a free agent. It is a good
   signing as Ervin goes 14-10
