Miami is starting to make a habit of surprising everybody. After having losing  Kyle Stowers (2.9) -  14
records the entire twenty teens decade, the Marlins made the WC during the  Jorge Soler(2.22) -  9
2020 covid year. They were expected to be in the cellar.
In 2023, again expected to finish last, the Marlins again over achieved big time, Notable Events:
won 84 games and again made the wild card.
And last year, 2025, everybody thought that Miami wouldn't even be competitive 2020 - Coming into the decade, Miami was on a ten year losing streak. They were
at the AAA level with the lineup they threw out there, yet ended up a very  0 for the Teens Decade. A consortium of 16 owners led by venture capitalist
respectable 78-84 flirting with .500 most of the season. Bruce Sherman bought the team from Jeffrey Loria in 2017. The most
It's hard to say how they'll do this season. Everybody in the starting lineup notable minor owners being Derek Jeter and Michael Jordan. Unfortunately for
held their own against big league pitching which was a major surprise. Marlins fans, this group continues the legacy of Miami ownership either being
And the pitching wasn't horrendous as everyone expected. unwilling to spend because they are essentially running a scam on the
Can they build on this or will they regress? We'll see. taxpayers of Miami or they genuinely can't spend because they have shallow
pockets or both. This group of owners has a combination of folks unwilling to spend
Starting Pitchers: and folks with shallow pockets. Either way, it sucks for Marlin fans.

  □ RHP Eury Perez, 23, '19 IFA - He's 6'8", '25 7-6 4.25 2020 - Derek Jeter was the consortium's first GM and the first thing he did
  □ LHP Braxton Garrett 28, '16 7th overall pick, '23 9-7 3.66 in 2017 was sell off any player of value. So it was a shock that in the 2020
  □ RHP Chris Paddack 30, '26 FA from Detroit, '25 5-12 5.03 shortened covid year, the Marlins ragamuffin outfit actually finished above
  □ RHP Max Meyer, 27, '20 draft 3rd overall pick,  '25 3-5 4.73 .500 and made the playoffs. Reality set back in '21 and Jeter bailed.
  □ RHP Noble Meyer, 21, '23 draft 10th overall pick, '25 A 1-7 4.41 He was replaced by the first female GM in baseball Kim Ng who lasted
  □ LHP Robbie Snelling 22, '24 Trade deadline from SD, '25 AA-AAA 9-7 2.51 thru 2024. Like Jeter Ng presided over one surprise above .500 playoff
  □ LHP Thomas White 21, '23 draft 2nd round pick, '25  AA-AAA 4-3 2.31 season in '23 only to bail in '24 as reality once again reared it's ugly head.
Florida, despite finishing near .500, gave up a lot of runs last year, 78 more than At this point, the consortium got serious and hired GM Peter Bendix away
the league average. That's a big hole to dig out of moving into the 2026 season. from the cross state Tampa organization. Time will tell if it was a bit of Bendix
Alcantara and Perez were back from TJ surgery and did better as the season magic or a mirage that the Marlins flirted with .500 most of '25.

is these two come up and Alcantara and Perez continue to progress after surgery. Mattingly lasted thru 2022. Seven seasons, six of which were ugly.
Mattingly is considered a good baseball man so no one held all of the losing
Relief Pitchers: against him. Skip Schumacher (who?) replaced Mattingly in '23 and
  □ RHP Closer Pete Fairbanks, 32, '26 FA from TB , '25  4-5 2.83 27saves Clayton McCullough (double who?) came on in '25.

  □ RHP Janson Junk, 30, '25 FA from Houston, '25  6-4 4.17
  □ RHP Lake Bacher, 31, '24 FA from SD, '25 8-2 3.93 2026 - Marlins fans are hoping that the Bendix / McCullough combo
  □ LHP Cade Gibson, 28, '22 draft 10th round, '25 4-5 2.63 will continue to work magic in Miami. Their pedigree from two winning
  □ RHP John King, 31, '26 FA from STL, '25  2-1 4.66 extremely well run organizations in Tampa and LA will be put to the test
Miami picked up a decent closer in Fairbanks from Tampa. If he performs as expected, in the crucible of small spending in Miami. Bendix has already lived it in Tampa.
the rest of the bullpen is pretty decent and could be a strength of the team. McCullough, meanwhile, has the pressure on him. His job is to turn sow's
ears into silk purses. So far, he has gotten off to a good start.

Miami only scored 12 runs less than the league average last year which was way
better than anyone could have possibly imagined looking at their roster coming
into the season. Pretty much everyone in the starting lineup held their own
against big league pitching - no one expected that. And a couple of youngsters
flashed some nice power, C Agustin Ramirez and OF Kyle Stowers. 2B Xavier
Edwards has developed into one of the better second basemen in the league
and he's only 25. He's hitting .298 in roughly two seasons of at bats and has good
speed having stolen 27 bases last year. Twenty six year old SS Otto Lopez hit
15 homers and stole 15 bases and will hit for a higher average than he did last
year. He's a good player. Twenty six year old OF Heriberto Hernandez hit .266 with
ten homers in a half season worth of at bats. He looks decent. OF Jakob Marsee,
who is twenty five, had 5 homers, 14 stolen bases and a .292 average in only
209 at bats. Ramirez, Hernandez, Marsee were all rookies last year and all did well.
Miami traded talented starting pitcher Edward Cabrera to the Cubs during the
off season for three youngsters, the best of which is stud OF prospect Owen
Caissie. He will be a focal point of the lineup in 2026. They also have a good
looking minor league catcher in Joe Mack, a first round pick in '21 who may
bump Agustin Ramirez to another position during the season.
