2000 - The Giants come into the new century on a high having  Notable Events:
finished second the previous two seasons after winning the
Division in 1997. They continue on, topping ninety wins the first 2005 - Righthander Matt Cain, 20, is a rookie. He was a first round
five years of the decade including three Division titles. The players pick 2002 (25th overall)
on the 2000 roster who were the big contributors moving forward:
First Base JT Snow, 32 2005 - Barry Bonds injures his knee and misses almost the whole
Second Base Jeff Kent, 32 season. The Giants plummet 16 games in the standings. Even tho'
Shortstop Rich Aurillia, 28 Bonds led the league in WAR in eleven of the fifteen seasons from 1990
Third Base Bill Mueller, 29 to 2004, you could make the case that it didn't adequately describe
LeftField Barry Bonds, 35 his true value as he averaged WAR of around 10 a year and the year he
Righthander Livan Hernandez, 25 was out, the Giants lost 16 games. Lineup synergy.
    Righthander Russell Ortiz, 26
Lefthander Kirk Rueter, 29 2006 - Righty reliever Brian Wilson, 24, is a rookie. He was a twenty
Righthander Joe Nathan, 25 fourth round pick in 2003.
    Righthander Robb Nen, 30
2006 - Bonds, 41, comes back, but he is no longer the same player. The
2000 - San Francisco wins the pennant. Jeff Kent is MVP. They lose the LDS. knee injury or age, or both have taken their toll. Unclear, at this point, if
steroid use or lack of it contributed to his sudden precipitous decline in
2001 - Ace righthander Jason Schmidt, 28, is obtained from the productivity. Also, the Giants now are a below average team as a result.
Pirates in a four player deal
2007 - Righthander Tim Lincecum, 23, is a rookie. He was a first round
2001 - Barry Bonds sets the major league home run record with 73. pick in the 2006 draft (tenth overall)
It truly was the most breathtaking season any big league player has ever had.
San Francisco, however, only finishes second. 2007 - Lefthander Barry Zito, 29, is signed from the A's as a free agent.
He was a big financial investment and a giant (so to speak) disappointment
2002 - Barry Bonds hits .370 most of his San Francisco tenure
San Francisco sneaks into the playoffs as a wild card, beats the Braves in
the LDS and the Cards in the NLCS before losing to the Angels in the WS 2008 - Pablo Sandoval, twenty one year old third baseman, is a rookie.
He was an interational free agent from Venezuela in 2003
  2003 - Barry Bonds hits .341
The Giants win 100 and the Division, but lose the LDS. 2009 - Catcher Buster Posey, 22, is a rookie. He was the fifth overall
    pick in the 2008 draft
  2004 - Barry Bonds hits .362

2004 - Barry Bonds wins his fourth consecutive MVP. Steroids or not,
Bonds was one of the most exciting hitters to watch of all time.
There was a time when, if the ball was in the strike zone, it wasn't getting
past  Bonds, it was going to be hit somewhere hard.
In fact, teams actually walked Bonds intentionally with the bases loaded
rather than pitching to him figuring the odds were with them.
Bonds' presence in the lineup was the major reason for the Giants
