The Giants have not finished over .500 in eight of the last nine years. No bueno. Outfield:
With 2021's 107 win season being the outlier. And San Francisco has been  Mike Yastrzemski (12.9) -   31
remarkably mediocre this decade finishing a total of eight games under .500 Heliot Ramos (2.68) -  16
in the five years outside of the 2021 outlier season. Being that consistent won-loss Joc Pederson (1.87) -  13
wise over that period of time is really hard to do. The Giants have five players on  Austin Slater (4.22) -   13
their roster who need to keep doing what they’ve been doing or San Francisco is Jung Hoo Lee (2) - 9
going to finish well under .500 this year: Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, Willie Adames, Michael Conforto (2) - 8
Rafael Devers and Matt Chapman. If any of those guys gets hurt, the Giants are in
  trouble. Notable Events:

Starting Pitchers: Since 2012, Larry Baer had been the lead owner of a consortium that has
   □ RHP Logan Webb, 26, '14 draft 4th round pick, '25 15-11 3.22 owned the Giants since 1992. Charlie Johnson took over that role in 2019.
  □ LHP Robbie Ray, 34, '24 Trade from Seattle, '25 11-8 3.65 Haven't noticed much of a change due to the change in leadership.
  □ RHP Tyler Mahle. 31, '26 FA from Texas, '25 6-4 2.18 San Francisco was not a deep pockets team during all of those years,
  □ RHP Adrian Houser, 33, '26 FA from TB, '25 2-3 4.79 but held their own pretty well due to the excellent stewardship of GM
  □ RHP Landen Roupp, 27, '21 draft 12th round pick, '25 7-7 3.80 Brian Sabean. Since Sabean stepped down in 2014, San Francisco's
  □ RHP Trevor McDonald, 25, '19 draft 11th round pick, '25 1-0 1.80 fortunes have changed for the worse. Sabean coaxed three world series
  □ LHP Carson Whisenhunt, 25, '22 draft 2nd round pick, '25 2-1 5.01 titles out of the team in the first half of the previous decade, retiring
  □ RHP Hayden Birdsong, 24, '22 draft 6th round pick, '25 4-4 4.80 after the third one. The organization hasn't been the same since.
The Giants pitching staff gave up 39 runs less than the league average. A lot of the
guys responsible for that are gone. Justin Verlander (Tigers),   Farhan Zaidi was President of Baseball Operations from 2019 thru 2024.
Tyler Rogers (Toronto), Randy Rodriguez (injured) and Camilo Doval (Yankees). He had previously been an executive in the successful Oakland A's and
Logan Webb and Robbie Ray are solid at the top of the rotation but after that  Los Angeles Dodgers organizations, so he has worked both on a shoestring
it's pretty wide open. Surprised the Giants are headed into the season with the  and with an abundance of resources. It's closer to the shoestring in
bottom three of the rotation up in the air. San Francisco.
It was unfair to expect Farhan to match Sabean's successes in
Relief Pitchers: San Francisco. However, the expectation was that the Giants would be a lot
   □ RHP Ryan Walker 27, '18 31st Round pick, '25 5-7 4.11 17saves better than they have shown since Sabean left.
  □ LHP Erik Miller, 28, '23 Trade from Phillies, '25 4-1 1.50 Buster Posey, former Giants catcher, became part owner after he retired
  □ RHP Jose Butto, 28, '25 Trade from Mets, '25 2-1 4.50 in 2021. He served on the consortium's Board of Directors and then
  □ RHP Joel Peguero, 29, '25 Trade from Detroit, '25 3-1 2.42 took over as President of Baseball Operations when Zaidi was let go after
  □ RHP Sam Hentges, 29, '26 FA from Cleveland, '24 0-0 3.04 the 2024 season. Posey has hired on the U of Tennessee baseball coach
  □ RHP Spencer Bivens, 32, '22 IFA, '25 4-3 4.00 to manage the Giants. Posey is also eschewing management by analytics
  □ RHP JT Brubaker, 32, '25 FA from NYY. '25 0-0 3.77 which makes sense as he is a former catcher. A lot of management is
  □ RHP Tristan Beck, 30, '19 Trade from Atlanta, '25 1-0 4.61 in the sport are completely out of touch with how the game is played on
  □ LHP Matt Gage, 33, '25 FA from Detroit, '25 0-1 3.91 the field and how analytics are inadequate to be solely relied on in most
Walker is the closer. That's a problem. The rest of the bullpen is mediocre at best. actual situations on the field. Posey feels that analytics are a tool in the
They really haven't replaced Rogers, Rodriguez and Doval who were effective. management tool box, not the be all, end all of decision making. Very wise.
Anyway, apparently the Tennessee coach Tony Vitello feels the same way.
  Regulars:
  □ C Patrick Bailey, 27, '20 draft 1st round pick, '25 6 55 .222 The 2021 season was fascinating because it was such an outlier. You get
  □ 1B Rafael Devers, 29, '25 Trade from Boston, '25 20 51 .236 that once in a long while, like the 1993 NL Champion Phillies.
  □ 2B Luis Arraez, 29, '26 FA from SD, '25 8 61 .292
  □ SS Willy Adames, 30, '25 FA from Milwaukee, '25 30 87 .235  2021 - The Giants go nuts. They come out of nowhere to win a whopping
  □ 3B Matt Chapman, 33, '24 FA from Toronto, '25  21 61 .231 107 games to nose out an exceptional Dodgers team that had won the
  □ OF Heliot Ramos, 26, '17 draft 1st round pick, '25 21 69 .256  Division the previous eight seasons and won 106 in '21. The Dodgers
  □ CF Harrison Bader, 31, '26 FA from Twins, '25 17 54 .277 would get revenge on San Francisco in the playoffs, beating the
  □ OF Jung Hoo Lee, 27, '24 IFA, '25  8 55 .266 Jints in the NLDS.
  □ C Daniel Susac, 25, '26 Rule 5 draft from Twins, '25 AAA 18 68 .275
  □ 1B Bryce Eldridge, 21, '23 draft 1st round pick, '25 0 4 .107  2021 - San Francisco with virtually the same team has one of those magical
  □ 2B Casey Schmitt, 27, '20 draft 2nd round pick, '25 12 40 .237 once in a lifetime type seasons. They had scored 5 runs per game in '20 and,
  □ IF Tyler FitzGerald, 28, '19 draft 4th round pick, '25 4 14 .217  with essentially the same lineup, score 5 runs a game again.
  □ IF Christain Koss, 28, '24 Trade from Boston, '25 3 23 .264 However, the pitching staff, which gave up an ugly 5 runs per game in '30,
  □ SS Josuar Gonzalez, 18, '25 IFA, '25 A 4 24 .288 cut that down to an outstanding 3.6 runs per game in '21.
  □ OF Will Brennan, 28, '26 FA from Cleveland, '24 6 30 .264  And that was all the difference. Kevin Gausman and Logan Webb upped
  □ OF Drew Gilbert, 25, '25 Trade deadline from Mets, '25 3 13 .190 their games considerably and newcomers Alex Wood, Anthony DeSclafani
   □ CF Luis Matos, 21, '18 IFA, '25 8 22 .221 and Jake McGee all had big years.
  □ OF Dakota Jordan, 23,  '24 draft 4th round pick, '25 A 14 82 .311 On top of that, the rest of the staff (Jarliin Garcia, Jose Alvarez, Tyler Rogers,
The Giants scored 16 runs less than the league average last year. and Zack Litell) also pitched quite well.
They've added Arraez and Bader which should help the offense a bit.
The three Big Boys in the offense are going to have to pick up their game or the 2022 - C Buster Posey, 33, retires. Has a good shot at making the
Giants are going to be stuck in mediocrity. Those three: Chapman; Devers and Hall of Fame. Joey Bart, 25, takes his place
and Adames all were OK power wise as they each hit over twenty homers, but
they didn't hit so good otherwise as they all batted in the .230's. 2022 - The team's top starter Kevin Gausman, 30, leaves to the Blue Jays
Ramos, Lee, Bailey and Eldridge round out the starting lineup. Ramos fell off a  as a free agent. No bueno for the Giants chances at a repeat.
cliff last year power wise. Lee is decent. Bailey hits like a catcher and Eldridge is
the big hope for improvement. He's a twenty one year old six foot seven lefty    2022 - The magic over, San Francisco gives up a hundred more runs
swinging monster who the Giants need to lift up their offense this year. than in '21 and scores a hundred less runs than in '21.
He has the talent, but he's very young.  And voila, you've got mediocrity at 81-81.
The starting lineup gets old and the pitching staff returns to earth.
