  2000 - The Astros are in the midst of a nine season run where they are Luke Scott (3.53) -   11  
   one of the top franchises in baseball.     
  They won Division titles in 1997 thru 1999 and will make three more post Notable Events:  
   season appearances over the first six seasons of the new century.  
  At the heart of the club are the two future Hall of Famers: 2004 - Two mainstays of the great New York Yankee teams of the start  
     first baseman Jeff Bagwell  of the century, Roger Clemens, 41, and Andy Pettitte, 33, return to their   
     and second baseman Craig Biggio. home state, Texas, in a big way. Clemens leads the Astros with an 18-4   
   Other important players on the 2000 roster: mark in 2004 and follows that up with a 13-8 1.87 2005. Pettitte battles  
     OF - Richard Hidalgo, 25 arm problems in 2004 and only goes 6-4, but follows that up with a brilliant   
    OF - Moises Alou, 33 17-9 2.39 season in 2005. The Astros make the post season both years.  
    OF - Lance Berkman, 24, 16th overall pick of '97 draft And they finally win a post season series in 2004.   
    IF - Julio Lugo, 24, 43rd round pick of '94 draft Their post season record:  
    3B - Morgan Ensberg, 24, 9th round pick in '98 draft   1980 NLCS Lost Philadelphia 3-2  
    Righty - Wade Miller, 23, 20th round pick of '96 draft   1981 NLDS Lost LA 3-2

  2001 - After a down year in 2000, the 'stros pick up twenty one games   1997 NLDS Lost Braves 3-0  
   in the standings to win the Division.   1998 NLDS Lost SD 3-1  
  The big difference was in the pitching:   1999 NLDS Lost Braves 3-1  
     Relief ace Billy Wagner was hurt in 2000, but came back big time in 2001.   2001 - NLDS Lost Braves 3-0  
     Wade Miller blossomed into a top of the rotation starter.   2004 - NLDS Won Braves 3-1  
      Shane Reynolds had a bounceback year.   2004 - NLCS Lost Cards 4-3  
      And there was a twenty three year old rookie righthander, Roy Oswalt,    2005 - NLDS Won Braves 3-1  
  who went 14-3.   2005 - NLCS Won Cards 4-2  
   Oswalt had been a twenty third round pick in the 1996 draft.   2005 - WS Lost White Sox 4-0  
  Meanwhile, the hitters continued to bludgeon the opposition:  Lifetime 3-9 in post season series including losing the first seven,
