  The Royals made a couple of tremendous free agent signings after the '23 MJ Melendez (-0.83) -  11  
  season picking up pitchers Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha from San Diego. Kyle Isbel (6.33) -   8  
  These signings were the main components in changing the Royals from a  
  a team that went 56-106 and gave up 111 more runs than the league average Notable Events:

  The signings of Lugo and Wacha in '24 transformed the Royals from a  three Division titles. The Royals performance improved under Matheny in '20.

  in baseball. Nice deal by Picollo.  
   
  Relief Pitching: 2024 - In a surprise, the Royals throw around a little money in the off season.  
     Closer Carlos Estevez, 33, '25 Trade from Phillies, '25 4-5 2.45 42saves They pick the bones of the San Diego Padres for a couple of solid pieces for   
     Lucas Erceg, 31, '24 Trade from A's, '25 8-4 2.64 their rotation in Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo. Those two join Cole Ragans  
     LHP Matt Strahm, 34, '26 Trade from Phillies, '25 2-3 3.74 who was picked up at the trade deadline in '23 from the Rangers, Brady   
     John Schreiber, 32, '24 Trade with Boston, '25 3-3 3.80 Singer a homegrown product who is looking to bounce back from a bad year,  
     Alex Lange, 30, '26 FA from Detroit, '23  7-5 3.68 and a couple of Atlanta Braves, Nick Anderson, who adds nice depth and   
     RHP Nick Mears, 29, '26 Trade with Milwaukee, '25 5-3 3.49 Kyle Wright who was 21-5 just two years ago. Former Royals first round pick

  The bullpen is a strength. Estevez is a quality closer. And there are a lot of One of the best single season turnarounds in big league history.
