2010 - The Mets come into the Twenty Teens on a downer, having gone 70-92 Third Base:
in 2009. It was even more of a downer because they finished over .500 the four David Wright (21.05) -   48
previous seasons including making it to the NLCS in 2006 and going 89-73 Todd Frazier (3.69) -   9
just two years earlier in 2008. The Amazins of 2010 bounce back a bit to 79-83
and the cupboard is far from bare regarding young players, but there's work to do. Outfield:
Keepers on the 2010 roster: Michael Conforto (12.54) -   32
  □ 1B - Ike Davis, 23, 18th overall pick in 2008 draft,  Curtis Granderson (10.81) -   31
never masters the strike zone Juan Lagares (12.08) -   30
  □ 1B - Lucas Duda, 24, 7th round pick in 2007,  Yoenis Cespedes (8.37) -   24
a home run or nothing type of player Angel Pagan (6.32) -   21
  □ 2B - Daniel Murphy, 25, 13th round pick in 2006, Brandon Nimmo (6.06) -   12
good stick for a second baseman Carlos Beltran (4.04) -   12
  □ SS - Ruben Tejada, 20, IFA in 2006, never quite gets over the hump Jay Bruce (2.27) -   11

  □ 3B - David Wright, 27, star quality, injuries derail his career Jeff McNeil (7.32) -    10
  □ 3B - Justin Turner, 25, one that got away, JD Davis (0.95) -    7
turns into a stalwart player for LA
  □ LF - Jason Bay. 31, FA in 2010 - Notable Events:
another star plummets when he comes to the Mets
  □ CF - Angel Pagan, 28, lost to SF in 2012 Free Agency 2015 - OF Michael Conforto, 22, is a rookie.
  □ RF - Jeff Francoeur, 26, dealt to Texas in 2010  He was the tenth overall pick in the 2014 draft.
  □ RHP - Mike Pelfrey, 26, ace of staff,
hurts his arm in 2011 and is never the same 2015 - LHP Steven Matz, 24, debuts.
  □ RHP - RA Dickey, 35, knuckleballer dealt to Toronto in 2013 He was a second round pick in 2009.
  □ RHP - Jon Niese, 23, 7th round pick in 2005,
solid bottom of the rotation kind of guy 2016 - The Mets have a good season, winning 87, only three less than
  □ RHP - Dillon Gee, 24, 21st round pick in 2007,  the previous year, and make the wild card. However, they lose to

  □ Closer - Francisco Rodgriguez, 28,
dealt to Milwaukee at trade deadline in 2011 2017 - New York drops 17 games in the standings as their
  □ Reliever - Bobby Parnell, 25, solid depth guy in the pen for several years pitching staff is decimated by injuries.

2010 - In an interesting hire, the Mets bring in GM Sandy Alderson,  2018 - Utility man Jeff McNeil, 26, is a rookie. He was a 12th round pick
who had been the developer of Money Ball (with Billy Beane under him) in 2013. Jeff outperforms his resume turning into one of the best players
back in the Nineties with the A's.  on the team.
And you have to go back to the Eighties to find a GM equal to Alderson
with the Mets, Frank Cashen (Met fans should be genuflecting at the 2018 - Anticipating that their pitchers will return recovered from their
name at this moment). Alderson is the steady hand needed by the Mets to  injuries, the Mets sign up several reasonably priced bats to augment
steer them to success, altho' ultimately, even Sandy isn't able to truly their lineup:
right this ship. There was a dark side to the Alderson hiring. OF Jay Bruce, 31
Sandy built the A's on the cheap.  1B Adrian Gonzalez, 36
The Wilpons obviously hired Alderson with the idea that he build the Mets  3B Todd Frazier, 32
on the cheap, as well. Rumor has it that Wilpon lost big in the Bernie Unfortunately for the Mets, even tho' their starters pitch well
Madoff scam. This also does not bode well for Met fans hoping for   (except for Matt Harvey who is released in May),
another spending spree, Minaya-style. the rest of the team stinks it up, particularly these new guys.
At least Alderson was highly competent.
2018 - Jacob DeGrom, 30, wins the Cy Young despite only winning
2011 - At the trading deadline, the Mets send OF Carlos Beltran, 34,  ten games.
to the Giants for mega righty pitching prospect Zack Wheeler, 21. That gives him the ROY and the Cy Young with a combined 19-15 record.
Wheeler had been the sixth overall pick of the 2009 draft. Don't get me wrong, I think DeGrom is superb. But, you may have guessed,
Injuries have slowed his career considerably.  if you have been following how I calculate win shares, that I don't
think 10 game winners should win the Cy Young award.
2012 - RHP Matt Harvey, 23, 7th overall pick in 2010 draft debuts Particularly since the award is named after Cy Young because he won
511 games during his career. At the end of the day, how much
2012 - Closer Jeureys Familia, 22, an IFA in 2007 debuts did you really help your team as a starter if you only won 10 games?

2012 - RHP Colin McHugh, 25, debuts and is traded to Rockies for 2019 - 1B Pete Alonso, 24, is Rookie of the Year. Pete sets the Mets team
Eric Young, 28, in 2013. McHugh was an 18th round pick in 2008 home run record with 53. He was a second round pick in the 2016 draft.
Alonso had hit 54 homers combined in his two previous minor league
2013 - CF Juan Lagares, 24, is a rookie. He was an IFA in 2006 seasons including spending a good amount of time in the hitter happy PCL.
You figured Pete to be good, you didn't expect great.
2013 - In a huge deal for the Mets, they receive RHP Noah Syndegaard, 21,     0
and catcher Travis D'Arnaud, 24, from Toronto in exchange for thirty eight 2019 - OF J.D. Davis, 26, is picked up from the Astros in what seems like
year old knuckleballer RA Dickey.  an insignificant deal. However, J.D. blossoms into a pretty good player
  with the Mets.
2014 - Forty one year old righthander Bartolo Colon is signed as a free agent.
Who would have guessed that Colon would be the Mets best pitcher over 2019 - C Wilson Ramos, 31, is signed as a free agent. Solid pickup.
the next three years considering all of the young studs on the Mets staff?
All he does is go 44-34 during that period. Whatever he's taking, I want some.   2019 - Brodie Van Wagenen is hired on as Mets GM.
Sandy Alderson retired midway thru the 2018 season due to
2014 - CF Curtis Granderson, 33, is signed by the Mets as a Free Agent. health reasons.  Van Wagenen is a bizarre choice to say the least as

The plan is for Van Wagenen to recuse himself as GM whenever he

three unexpected sources: Pete Alonso, JD Davis and Jeff McNeil.
2015 - Desperately needing an offensive boost to stay alive in the  New York wins 86 games and are an entertaining watch thanks to
