  □ There is finally some hope in Metland. Steve Cohen has taken ownership
of the Mets in '21. Cohen has deep pockets. Preliminary indications are that Notable Events:
he will be willing to spend to make the Mets a contender. This is nothing but
great news for long suffering Mets fans. 2024 - The Mets saga for the last couple of years could be called
"Spending Steve Cohen's Money". In 2022, it worked. In 2023, it didn't"

Brodie Van Wagenan. He was an odd choice for GM given his background. would have predicted an 80-82 mark.
It only gets worse as the Mets hired Jared Porter who was quickly fired

Buck Showalter is brought in in '22. He's as good as it gets. The Mets  □ 2B Jeff McNeill, 31, '13 12th round pick, 10 55 .270

Unfortunately, for the Mets, they lose to the Padres in the wild card round.  □ CF Brandon Nimmo, 30, '11 13th overall pick, 24 68 .274

2020 - There are several keepers on the club that are talented enough to be Alvarez looks like he's going to be a big time hitter. If that proves out,

The Mets also give up a couple of pretty good young middle infielder prospects  □ RHP Kodai Senga, 31, '23 FA from Japan, 12-7 2.98
in the deal in Andres Gimenez and Amed Rosario - but these guys weren't  □ LHP Jose Quintana, 35, '23 FA from St. Louis, 3-6 3.57

     □ RHP Adrian Houser, 31, '24 FA from Milwaukee, 8-5 4.12
  2021 - The Mets finish a disappointing 77-85. They score 636 runs, give up 668.  □ RHP Luis Severino, 30, '24 FA from Yankees, 4-8 6.65
     □ LHP David Peterson, 29, '17 1st round pick, 3-8 5.03
2022 - The Amazins amaze, gaining twenty four games in the standings to 101 wins. □ RHP Adam Ottavino, 38, '22 FA from Boston, 1-7 3.21 12 saves
Both the hitting and pitching improved dramatically as the Mets score 772 runs  □ Closer Edwin Diaz, 30, '19 trade from Seattle, injured
and give up only 606. It's well over a run a game improvement from '21.  □ LHP Brooks Raley, 35, '23 Trade from Tampa, 1-2 2.80 3 saves
On offense, Pete Alonso went 40-131-.271, Francisco Lindor 26-107-.270,  □ LHP Joey Lucchesi, 30, '21 Trade from San Diego, 4-0 2.89 12
and Mark Canha, Eduardo Escobar, Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte all
hit double figure home run totals.  Jeff McNeil hit .326. A circular lineup.
OF Marte, 33, A's; 3B Escobar, 33, Brewers; and OF Canha, 33. A's were all
free agent pickups who made an impact.
On the mound, RHP Chris Bassitt, 33, who was picked up in a trade from the A's,
went 15-9 3.42. RHP Max Scherzer, 36, a free agent signing from Washington,
went 11-5 2.29. RHP Carlos Carrasco, 35, came back from injury to go 15-7 3.97.
RHP Taijuan Walker, 28, improved dramatically to 12-5 3.49.
Closer Edwin Diaz, 28, had a lights out 1.31 ERA.

2023 - The Mets lose a boatload of guys to free agency inlcuding a few
  that they really should have kept: RHP Jacob deGrom, 35;
RHP Taijuan Walker, 28; and RHP Chris Bassitt, 34. But, particularly
deGrom despite having an off year in '22 going 5-4 3.08. Even tho'
the Mets had this weird history with Jacob where, year in and year out,
they would never score runs when he pitched, his departure was a huge
loss. That being said, they're coming off a 101 win season and the owner
has deep pockets. They also have a competent management team of
Alderson, Eppler and Showalter coming into the season. And altho'
they have lost a number of players, they did add a few good arms:
Justin Verlander, David Robertson and Kodai Senga.

2023 - The season is a complete disaster as the Mets drop a whopping
twenty six games in the standings to 75-87. It starts in the offseason when
closer Edwin Diaz is lost for the season during the World Baseball Classic.
The team was a bit long in the tooth, but almost everybody had an off year.

2023 - The Mets bail at the trade deadline. Gone are Max Scherzer,
  Justin Verlander, David Robertson

2023 - At the close of the season, the Mets contnue to bail, dumping
manager Buck Showalter for Carlos Mendoza and they dump
Billy Eppler for highly regarded Brewers GM David Stearns.
