The Mets looked like a shoo-in for the playoffs coming into August and they went Michael Conforto (2.92) -   9
eleven games under .500 down the stretch. The collapse gave GM David Stearns Mark Canha (2.47) -  7
license to reshape the roster (he probably had license but this made it easier). Harrison Bader (1) -  7
There were half a dozen major losses from last season, but there were seven Tyrone Taylor (3.2) -  7
significant additions that, overall, have improved the talent on the roster a bit.
The Mets also lost a couple of top prospects in the dealings - SP Brandon Sproat Notable Events:
and Jett Williams. The Mets should be a contender this season. But, then again,
they had the talent to make the playoffs last year, so who knows? 2020 - The last year of the Wilpon reign of error. Appropriate that there was
covid in a way, as there had been a pox on the Mets under the Wilpons.
  Starting Pitchers:
  □ RHP Freddy Peralta,  30, '26 Trade from Milwaukee, '25 17-6 2.70 2021 - A new day in MetLand. A deep pockets owner who wants to win
  □ RHP Clay Holmes, 33, '25 FA from NYY, '25 12-8 3.53 buys the club, Steve Cohen. He brings back Sandy Alderson, a good
  □ LHP Sean Manaea, 34, '24 FA from SF, '25 2-4 5.64 baseball man as President and Alderson, in turn, hires Billy Eppier,
  □ LHP David Peterson, 30, '17 1st round pick, 9-6 4.22 another good baseball man, as GM
   □ RHP Kodai Senga, 32, '23 FA from Japan, '25 7-6 3.02
   □ RHP Nolan McLean,  24, '23 draft 3rd round pick, '25 5-1 2.06 2022 - Eppier brings in Buck Showalter to manage the club and the team
   □ RHP Jonah Tong,  23, '22 draft 7th round pick, '25 2-3 7.71 responds with a 101-61 mark. Mets fans are ecstatic, the new owner has
The Mets picked themselves up an ace from the Brewers in the off season from made them a winner! The team is led by guys who have been around for
Milwaukee who extracted prospect Brandon Sproat from them. With Peralta, a while, however. The big contributors were 1B Pete Alonso, 2B Jeff
the Mets starting pitching has a chance at being a big strength this season. McNeil, SS Francisco Lindor, OF Brandon Nimmo, OF Starling Marte,
Nolan McLean a twenty four year old came up at the end of the season and tore  P Jacob deGrom, P Chris Bassitt, P Taijuan Walker, P Carlos Carrasco,
it up. He is probably for real, and, if so, the Mets have a primo one two punch P Max Scherzer, Closer Edwin Diaz. You'll note that coming
at the top of the rotation. After that, veterans Peterson, Holmes, Senga  and   into the 2026 season that only one of these guys is still around - Lindor.
Manaea slot in very well. Youngster Jonah Tong is a wild card here.
2023 - Just when Mets fans were saying  "This is good", it wasn't.
Relief Pitchers: The Mets plummet twenty six games in the standings despite still spending
  □ RHP Devin Williams, 32, '26 FA from NYY, '25 a lot of Steve Cohen's money.
  □ LHP Brooks Raley, 35, '23 Trade from Tampa, '25 3-1 2.45
  □ RHP Luke Weaver, 32, '26 FA from NYY, '25 4-4 3.62 2024 - Steve Cohen decides to move in another direction getting rid of
  □ RHP Luis Garcia, 39, '26 FA from Anaheim, '25 2-2 3.42 Alderson, Eppier and Showalter and bringing in the highly successful
  □ RHP Tobias Myers, 27, '26 Trade from Milwaukee, '25 1-2 3.55 Milwaukee GM David Stearns. Carlos Mendoza is Stearns' field manager.
  □ RHP Huascar Brazoban, 36, '24 deadline from Miami, '25 5-2 3.57
  □ LHP Bryan Hudson, 28, '26 FA from White Sox, '25 5-2 3.57 2024 - The Mets rebound and make the Wild Card winning fourteen
  □ RHP Craig Kimbrel, 38, '26 FA from Houston, '25 0-1 2,25 more games. It's a start, but obviously the idea is to go way beyond this.
  □ LHP AJ Minter, 32, '25 FA from Atlanta, '25 0-0 1.64
  □ RHP Adbert Alzolay, 31, '25 from Cubs, '24 1-4 4.67 2025 - Juan Soto is signed away from the Yankees for a zillion dollars and
Edwin Diaz went to LA, a big loss. Devin Williams was signed to replace Diaz a kajillion years. And thru July, even tho' Soto is underperforming, the Mets
as closer. Maybe he will. The rest of the pen looks OK with a few guys coming are winning. Then the collapse, while, ironically, Soto picks up his game big
back from injury who were pretty good prior. There are eight legitimate veteran time over the last two months. It all sets up a very interesting 2026 for
relievers on the staff including the three who had injuries. A possible strength area. David Stearns and the Mets.

At the end of the day, the Mets offense did well last season scoring 46 runs more
than the league average. Since the end of the season, new GM David Stearns
has been cleaning house of members of the starting lineup who weren't his kind
of player: 1B Pete Alonso (huge loss for the Mets); OF Branson Nimmo (something
of a surprise); 2B Jeff McNeill; OF Starling Marte. That's a significant group.
In their place, Stearns has brought in his type of players: 1B Jorge Polanco (never
played first base before); 2B Marcus Semien; 3B Bo Bichette; OF Luis Robert.
As a group, the new guys are an improvement over the old ones. There are some
  good holdovers: OF Juan Soto (superstar); SS Francisco Lindor (superstar);
  OF Mark Vientos (solid); 3B Bret Baty (moves to OF to make way for Bichette);
C Francisco Alvarez (oft injured). That's a circular lineup and you figure that
it is an improvement over last year.
