Closer - Brad Lidge, 33, 27 saves 2.96 ERA Notable Events:

Other excellent position players on the roster (more guys in or near their thirties): 2015 - The Phillies teams that had the great run of five division titles from
C- Carlos Ruiz, 31 2007-2011 had been built by Lee Thomas, Ed Wade and Pat Gillick. In 2009,
3B-Placido Polanco, 34 Ruben Amaro Jr picked up as GM from Pat Gillick, but while he was good
LF-Raul Ibanez, 38 at overseeing a club that others had built, he was unable to add young talent
CF-Shane Victorino, 29 to the organization during this period to sustain Philadelphia's success
after the core got old. Ruben would be GM into 2015 and he did start
Young high callibre players on the roster (not a whole lot): adding some talent to the organization towards the end of his tenure, but
OF - Domonic Brown, 22. 20th round pick of 2006 draft it was too little, too late for his survival. He was replaced by Mathew Klentak.
LHP - Cole Hamels, 26, 17th overall pick in 2002 draft
RHP - Kyle Kendrick, 25, 7th round pick in 2003 draft 2018 - The Phillies almost reach .500 at 80-82. They haven't seen .500 in six
years. Philadelphia has a young team with a lot of talent that is beginning to
2010 - The Phils trade three prospects including JA Happ and Jonathan Villar  make it's presence known:
to the Astros in exchange for ace righthander Roy Oswalt. All Oswalt does is go   C - Jorge Alfaro, 25, Trade from Texas at 2015 deadline for Cole Hamels
7-1 1.74 down the stretch run. Unfortunately Oswalt hurts his arm next season   3B - Maikel Franco, 25, IFA 2010
and his career is effectively over at age thirty three.   OF - Rhys Hoskins, 25, 5th round of 2014 draft
OF - Odubel Herrera, 26, Rule 5 draft from Texas 2015
2010 - Philadelphia wins their fourth straight Division title - they lose in the NLCS    OF - Nick Williams, 24, Trade from Texas at 2015 deadline for Cole Hamels
to the Giants as the Phillies continue to be among baseball's elite.   RHP - Aaron Nola, 25, 7th overall pick 2014 draft
    Closer - Seranthony Dominguez, 23, IFA 2011
2011 - Ace lefthander Cliff Lee, 32, who had been with the Phillies in 2009 rejoins  There's also a bunch of other players in their mid twenties that add to the depth
them as a free agent and has a monster 17-8 2.40 year. Along with Halladay 19-6 of young talent on the squad: SS Scott Kingery, OF Aaron Altherr, RHP Scott
2.35 and Hamels 14-9 2.79, Philadelphia has a killer rotation. The bullpen is also Pivetta, RHP Vince Velasquez, RHP Zach Eflin and relievers Victor Arano and
solid led by Ryan Maddson 2.37 ERA and 32 saves and Kyle Kendrick 8-6 3.22.  Edubray Ramos. Rounding out the squad are a couple of excellent thirty two
year old veterans in 1B Carlos Santana and RHP Jake Arrieta
2011 - With the above pitching and a circular lineup featuring seven players
in double figures in home runs, the Phils win their fifth straight division title.  2019 - Stud C JT Realmuto, 28, is pilfered from Miami for three young players.
Despite being able to trot out Halladay, Lee, Hamels in a short series, Philly does not tear apart it's farm system to get Realmuto.
they lose in the NLDS to the Cards.
2019 - Philadelphia signs superstar OF Bryce Harper, 26, to a huge contract,
2012 - It's over. The Phillies get old. They drop twenty one games in the prying him away from Washington. Everyone expected the Phillies to soar to the
standings and it's time to rebuild. They finish at .500 81-81. top of the Division and the Nationals to go down in flames. So what happened?
Exactly the opposite. The Phillies lay an egg. Washington wins the World Series.
2015 - David Montgomery falls ill and John S. Middleton takes over control Certainly not a good look for Harper, who gets the A-Rod award for helping
of the Phillies Ownership Consortium. Matthew Klentak (who?) is hired on his team get to the next level by leaving. The Phils are lucky to make it to .500
as GM. as they score less than the league average runs and give up more than the
  league average runs.

2019 - Philadelphia has a lot of young guys who you are expecting to take
their games to the next level, but they aren't. They got several "name"
veterans who now appear to be in decline. Disappointing.
