2000 - A lost decade, right down there with the worst ones in baseball history. Xavier Nady (2.89) -   17
The Bucs average 68-94 and never come close to .500. Kevin McClatchey was John Van der Wal (2.95) -   15
the non-spending owner during the first seven years. Robert Nutting bought the Tike Redman (0.21) -   15
club in 2007 and very slowly (seven years) got the Bucs into the winning column.  Reggie Sanders (3.1) -   10
But that wouldn't happen until 2013
    Notable Events:
2000 - The Bucs actually have several pretty good position players on the club
during the decade. C-Jason Kendall, 1B- Craig Wilson and Adam LaRoche,  2003 - Twenty five year old righthander Bronson Arroyo, a 1995 3rd round
SS-Jack Wilson, 3B- Aramis Ramirez, OF-Jason Bay, Brian Giles, Nate McClouth draft pick, is waived by the Pirates after three seasons at the tail end of
and Xavier Nady. Just not enough at any one time to make the team decent. Bucs bullpen. He will go on to win well over a hundred games over more
than a dozen seaons with teams not named Pirates
2001 - Outfielder Craig Wilson, 24, is a rookie. He was obtained in a trade with
Toronto five years earlier. 2005 - Twenty four year old centerfielder Nate McClouth is a rookie. He was a
twenty fifth round draft choice in 2000.
2001 - Twenty Three year old  shortstop Jack Wilson is a rookie. He was obtained
from the Cardinals a year earlier in a trade. 2008 - OF Jose Bautista, 26, is dealt to Toronto for someone named Robinzon
Diaz. Unclear why Pittsburgh thought they needed Diaz. Anyway, this turned
2003 - Twenty four year old outfielder Jason Bay is obtained from the Padres  out to be a horrific deal for the Pirates as Bautista went on to become one of
in a trade for outfielder Brian Giles. Quality for quality the most feared sluggers in the majors in the coming decade.
