  2000 - The decade opens on a high as the Reds had a big 1999 winning 96 Jose Guillen (4.45) -   16

  2000 - Ken Griffey Jr. is acquired from Seattle in a trade. He wanted to go home    
  to Cincinnati, his hometown and where his father had a pleasant experience  Notable Events:  
  playing ball. Griffey has a big 2000 season, but then injuries sabotage the rest    
  of his career and he turns into an "old" outfielder overnight even tho' he was  2006 - Castellini hires on Wayne Krivsky as GM in one of his first moves  
  only thirty years old when acquired.  as new owner. This hire does not inspire hope in Reds fans and   
     Krivsky is not up to the task of making good things happen  
  2002 - Joey Votto, a nineteen year old first baseman, is selected in the second  
  round of the 2002 draft by Cincinnati 2006 - Twenty five year old second baseman Brandon Phillips is stolen  
    from Cleveland in a trade for basically nothing  
  2003 - Great American Ballpark opens. It replaces Riverfront Stadium / Cinergy    
   Field that had been home to the Reds since 1970. The new park is of the retro 2006 - Bronson Arroyo, a twenty nine year old righthander is stolen from the   
  style replacing the old charmless round cookie cutter stadium that was typical Red Sox in a trade for young outfield prospect Willy Mo Pena who was a bust  
  of those built in the Seventies.    
    2008 - OF Josh Hamilton, 27, is dealt to Texas for RHP Edinson Volquez  
  2003 - Dan O'Brien Jr is hired on as General Manager replacing Jim Bowden. who is 24. Quality for quality deal. Hamilton is potentially the best hitter in  
  He is not the answer and the Reds continue to flounder. the game but has an exceptionally fragile psyche.  
   
  2003 - Aaron Harang, twenty five year old righthander, is obtained 2008 - Walt Jocketty is hired away as General Manager from the

     the Reds malaise and weakening a division rival by hiring away  
  2005 - Eighteen year old outfielder Jay Bruce is selected in the first round of the the guy most responsible for their success. Initially, Jocketty was hired  
  2005 amateur draft by the Reds as an advisor, but it wasn't long before he was in the saddle.  
   
  2006 - Bob Castellini purchases the club from billionaire Carl Lindner Jr. 2008 - Dusty Baker is hired as Reds manager. Dusty is one of the more
