2B - Brandon Phillips, 29, obtained in 2006 trade with Cleveland
CF - Drew Stubbs, 25, 8th overall pick in 2006 draft 2015 - Now that it's clear that the team is in the toilet, the Reds begin to rebuild
OF - Jay Bruce, 23, 12th overall pick in 2005
RHP  - Bronson Arroyo, 33, still has a lot of gas left in the tank 2015 - 3B Eugenio Suarez, 23, is obtained from Detroit for RHP Alfredo Simon
RHP - Johnny Cueto, 24, IFA in 2004 Simon, 34, was coming off a 15-10 season with the Reds. Great deal for the
RHP - Mike Leake, 22, 8th overall pick on 2009 draft Cincinnati, however, as Suarez will turn into a big time slugger moving forward.
RHP - Homer Bailey, 24, 7th overall pick in 2004 draft
  □ Closer - Aroldis Chapman, 22, 100 plus mph high priced IFA in 2010 2015 - RHP Johnny Cueto is dealt to KC at the trade deadline
Cueto was 7-6 2.62 at the time. Trade yields Reds nothing of value in returen

for three recent first round picks and a live armed starter.  Reds get nothing of value in return
GM Walt Jocketty had a high quality youthful squad, but the starting
pitching was a big letdown in 2011, and the Reds had fallen out of 2016 - SS Jose Peraza, 21, is a rookie. He was picked up in a trade with LA
contention as a result.  The strategy to trade a chunk of the future for
present pitching works as the Reds bounce back to win the Division behind 2017 - 2B Scooter Gennett, 27, is picked up on waivers from Milwaukee.
a strong pitching staff that yielded 162 less runs than in 2011.  He makes history during the season when he clubs four homers in a game.
    Latos helped going 14-4
The youngsters dealt to San Diego for Latos:  2018 - This marks the fifth year in a row since the Reds made the Wild Card
1B - Yonder Alonso, 25, 7th overall pick in 2008 draft in 2013 that they have been awful. The pitching is worse than the hitting.
RHP - Brad Boxberger, 24, first round pick in 2009 draft  There are a handful of relievers that pitched well, the rest of the staff was
C - Yasmani Grandal, 23, 12th overall pick in 2010 draft weak. On offense, the Reds have some promise. 3B Eugenio Suarez is a stud,
RHP - Edinson Volquez, 28  SS Jose Peraza is a good young player. There's also 2B Scooter Gennett and
CF Billy Hamilton who are in their late twenties. 1B Joey Votto, 34, has been
2013 - Cincinnati sends promising  twenty two year old SS Didi Gregorius  one of  the best hitters in baseball until his production took a serious
to Arizona and CF Drew Stubbs to Cleveland in exchange for hard hitting  nosedive in 2018.
OF Shin-Soo Choo, 30. Gregorius was an IFA in 2007.
The Reds had struggled scoring runs in 2012 despite winning the Division. 2019 - RHP Sonny Gray, 29, is acquired from the Yankees
The deal worked in the short term as Cincinnati makes it to the
wild card game, but not so good long term. 2019 - RHP  Trevor Bauer, 28, is acquired at the trade deadline from Cleveland.

2013 - Speedy OF Billy Hamilton, 22, is a rookie. He was a 2nd round pick in '09 2019 - Make it six bad years in a row and counting. Nothing about the
Cincinnati team inspires you that they will be any good any time soon.
2014 - Cincinnati's mini-run of three playoff appearances in four seasons ends. They have a bottom tier farm system.
This time, it's the hitting that falls apart. Despite big years by Mesoraco and  They only have a few young keepers on their roster:
Frazier, Votto is injured and his absence cannot be overcome and Jay Bruce     C Tucker Barnhart, 28, 10th round pick '09
takes an unexpected serious step backward in production at the age of 27.    3B Eugenio Suarez, 27,  trade with Detroit '15
Unfortunately for Cincinnati, this is not a temporary setback. It is a harbinger of a Suarez is a stud and the Reds need to trade him soon to get value for him
fullscale collapse on both offense and defense. This collapse was a surprise to   OF Jesse Winker, 25, 1st round pick '12
everybody as the Reds looked like the were positioned for a nice run. In the end,   OF Nick Senzel, 24, 1st round pick '16
several players let them down and there wasn't enough depth of talent in the   RHP Luis Castillo, 26, trade from Miami for Dan Straily '17
organization to make up the difference. It turns out that the Latos and Choo deals
severely depleted the overall talent level on the club and there was no safety  2019 - The bad trades of '15 and '16 where the Reds traded a bunch of studs
net when some of the front liners slid backward. and had only Suarez to show for it is why they're so bad in '19
