  1969 - Buzzy Bavasi is hired on as GM. Bavasi had been with the Dodgers where he was 1969 - Righty Clay Kirby, 23, is the 12th pick from St. Louis in the expansion draft   
  one of the best GM's in baseball history. He forgets to bring his mojo to San Diego.    
  Preston Gomez, another well respected baseball man, is the Padres manager. 1969 - 1B Nate Colbert, 23, is the 18th pick from Houston
