  Notable Events: Third Base:
    Eric Hinske (7.33) -   19
2000 - A tough decade for the Jays. They weren't terrible, as they finished just Tony Batista (2.31) -   17
about .500 for the decade. Not too many highs, not too many lows. Troy Glaus (7.63) -   14
It was a very tough division with the big bucks Yankees and Red Sox dominating. Scott Rolen (7.36) -   12
Rogers Communications bought the club in 2000, but, once again, corporate
baseball franchise ownership doesn't match the intensity of an obsessed  Outfield:
individual owner and mediocrity is usually what you can expect. Vernon Wells (25.07) -   58
JP Ricciardi was brought in as GM and he did well to keep the Jays afloat, Alex Rios (20.44) -   46
a well respected General Manager. After coming up with some  real gems in the Shannon Stewart (13) -   32
first round in the Nineties, the Law of Averages won out in the Oughts as there Jose Cruz (6.57) -   23
wasn't much happening in the first round of the Blue Jays drafts in the 2000's Raul Mondesi (5.91) -   18
thereby contributing to their mediocrity in the decade.  Reed Johnson (8.59) -   17
Ricciardi had a tough act to follow in Gord Ash with respect to the first rounders. Frank Catalanotto (6.84) -   15
The top four Blue Jay players in the Oughts were already in the organization Matt Stairs (1.98) -   10
at the turn of the century.  Adam Lind (4.9) -   9
Three were on the Toronto big league roster in 2000: Jose Bautista (2.85) -   4
  □ RHP Roy Halladay, 23, 1st round pick in 1995
  □ OF Vernon Wells, 21, 1st round pick in 1997 Notable Events:
  □ 1B Carlos Delgado, 28, IFA in 1988
  □ The fourth, Alexis Rios, wouldn't come up until 2004, 2007 - It all fizzles. Led by major disappointments Alexis Rios and
he was a 1st round pick in 1998 Vernon Wells, nothing gets better for the Jays.
The great promise of the young and talented 2006 Blue Jay team just sits
2003 - One of the bright spots of the decade for the Jays is righthander  there like a lump moving forward thru the rest of the decade.
Roy Halladay who was just plain nasty.  They shoulda been somebody. The talent was there.
Halladay wins the Cy Young going 22-7 with 204 K's in '03.  Injuries to several of the young pitchers really hurts
The inexplicable regressions of most of the hitters, particularly
2006 - The Jays win 87 games and look like they're ready to take it to the next  Wells and Rios contributes greatly to the disappointment, as well.
level and challenge Boston and New York. They’re loaded with talent.
They've got two studs in the outfield who are on the cusp of stardom in  2008 - OF Jose Bautista, 27, is stolen from the Pirates in a deal
twenty five year old Alexis Rios and twenty seven year old Vernon Wells.  for Robinzon Diaz
Toronto also has several other high quality young hitters in 3B Troy Glaus,
1B Lyle Overbay, 2B Aaron Hill and OF Adam Lind. In addition, there's high quality
starters Roy Halladay, Ted Lilly and AJ Burnett, who are in their prime,
and a bunch of promising younger arms such as Brandon League, Jesse Litsch,
Dustan McGowan,  Gustavo Chacin, Casey Janssen, Jeremy Accardo,
   and Shaun Marcum.
